Text counter
Characters with and without spaces, words, lines, sentences and a 200-words-per-minute read. An emoji counts as one character.
How it works
Characters are Unicode code points. The word “ação” is 4 characters, and an emoji such as 😀 counts as 1 even when it occupies two UTF-16 code units. The counter also shows the UTF-16 length for systems that still measure strings that way.
A word is a chunk split on whitespace. Sentences are a rough split on . ! and ?, so abbreviations inflate the number. Use words for a writing target and characters for a form limit.
Questions
Why does this disagree with a social network?
Each product counts URLs, line breaks and emoji with its own rule, and changes it. This page tells you which rule it used.
Do trailing spaces count?
Yes, in the count with spaces. The count without spaces removes all whitespace, including line breaks.
Is the text uploaded?
No. The script runs on the page.
