Slug generator

“Ação de Graças!” becomes acao-de-gracas. Short words stay. Dropping them changes a URL you may already have published.

The result shows up here.

How it works

The steps are: strip accents, lowercase, replace every non-letter non-digit run with a hyphen, and trim hyphens. Doubled hyphens collapse.

A stable slug beats a prettier one. If the article is already at /acao-de-gracas/, do not “improve” it without a redirect. This page shows the string. Publishing it is a separate decision.

Questions

What happens to numbers and emoji?

Numbers stay. Emoji and punctuation become hyphens, then disappear if nothing else is left.

Hyphen or underscore?

Hyphen. That is the usual article URL.

Are accents illegal in URLs?

Browsers accept them, percent-encoded. People and older tools trip. Unaccented slugs travel further.
